Can you indicate the references of the first 5 items and tell me how historically they are. I see yuo have done them for Warhammer and for Chivalry games but it would be too exagerated to add them too Fantasy folder.

The Warhammer drawings shouldn't be too far off from real history. Sure, they are based on a fantasy universe, but since I prefer historically plausible stuff anyways, my idea with the drawings is for Warhammer to look more... plausible. I've mostly drawn Empire units and those are originally based on the renaissance landsknechts of the Holy Roman Empire, but many things could very well be a mishmash from different time periods before and after the renaissance.
My characters don't look like *typical* landsknechts, although I would say they aren't historically inconsistent at least. The Knight I based entirely on a historical suit of armour, though I replaced the helmet (which a knight most likely would wear) with a landsknecht hat. Don't know if that style of armour is anything a renaissance german would wear though. The Huntsman look more like a landsknecht, with his katzbalger sword hanging from his belt. Though I think his style of hat is something that might've been worn a bit later in history. The Militiaman shouldn't be too implausible, but I don't know if he's historical either. The vest, the boots, the type of sword - I don't know if these are things of that period.
The Man-at-Arms is based on the high middle ages and he's historical; he just looks very poor. That might be an inconsistency of itself, depending on how nitpicky you are, since soldiers had salaries and he surely would afford a new set of clothes haha. In the context of Warhammer, he's supposed to be poor-looking though. The term Man-at-Arms is also faulty, since it historically refers to well-armoured soldiers. Whatevs.
The Agathian Crossbowman has a few weird things about him, but doesn't look too out of the middle ages. He's got those gaiters on his legs which looks rather modern. He's also wearing an archer's vambraces, which would be unnecessary for a crossbowman. Also the arms on his gambeson only covers the shoulders, but I am sure that someone in the middle ages probably had it like that hehe.
I am planning on drawing lots more historical stuff, so don't you worry about that. Depends on when I feel the inspiration, you know.

Thanks for this very insightfull description of your drawings. It was fun to read and Ive learned new stuffs as well. And I who tought you draw this just out of your head being only instinctively conditioned by your historical awareness.
Question: why those vamabraces werent necessary for crosbowmans but they were for archers, therefore the term "archers vambraces?
A favour I have to ask:
Its really a shame that the scaning of your drawings isnt that good. I see your vikings and Agathian drawings came out pretty nice and clean though. Can you rescan the rest of your items in my group to get similar results !

The vambraces, or wrist guards, are used by archers because it protects the wrists from the bow string snapping you hurtfully. I haven't had that problem when shooting with a bow, but my girlfriend hit her wrist twice and it resulted in a huge bruise (just a 42 pound bow, so imagine a 120 pound warbow instead!) For the right hand, with which you pull the string, you don't really need a wrist guard but rather a glove so your fingers don't wear out or get blistered from constantly pulling the bow string.
Melee fighters also use vambraces, but these types are often the more armoured kind, as to protect from sword blows and such. In Fantasy settings, a lot of people like to wear regular leather vambraces on both arms. Because it looks cool, I guess.
The thing with the scanner is that if I use a rather rough pencil, and/or if I draw on thicker sketch paper, it picks up the details fine (as with the viking drawing.) The downside is that if I want use an eraser, it won't go away easily. So mostly I've been using a lighter paper and thinner copier paper, and I can get more detailed with the drawings, but then my scanner don't want to pick up all the details. I tried increasing the scanned drawings' contrast, the details showed up but everything had an unnatural colour instead. So I photograph my drawings, and then work with them in Gimp a bit. Sure, you see all the wrinkles in the paper that way, but at least you also see the full drawing!
I'll try to use the scanner the next time, see if I can get it to turn out alright.
